Universal Logo History 1937 - 1963
These are the logos Universal used at the beginning of their feature films from the New Universal era of 1937 on through the Universal-International era of late 1946 through 1962 and the MCA era starting in 1963. ’Top of the Town’ (April 18, 1937) is the first Universal film to open with the “glass globe" logo (used through 1946), accompanied by the musical fanfare entitled "New Universal Signature" composed by Jimmy McHugh. Please note the two color logos right after the glass globe logo. These were used in the early to mid 1940's at the beginning of Universal Technicolor features.
