Jeopardy! (Nintendo 64) Playthrough

A playthrough of GameTek's 1998 license-based game show game for the Nintendo 64, Jeopardy! GameTek's Jeopardy! was one of just two games the company ever produced for the Nintendo 64, coming along about three months after the release of Wheel of Fortune (   • Wheel of Fortune (N64) Playthrough - Ninte...  ), and these two were the only game show adaptations released for the system. The game looks more like Imagineering's 16-bit versions of Jeopardy! for the SNES (   • Jeopardy! (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoCom...  ) and Genesis (   • Jeopardy! (Genesis) Playthrough - Nintendo...  ) than it does Artech's PlayStation renditions (   • Jeopardy! (PS1) Playthrough - NintendoComp...  ). A more restrained approach to presentation was to be expected given the memory limitations imposed by the N64's cartridges, but there was still a fair amount packed into this slab of plastic. The game has 4,000 questions split across 650 categories, you can select the difficulty of the questions being asked from the pre-game menus, and the typing interface has been updated with an optional auto-complete feature. Nice upgrades, to be sure, but nothing groundbreaking. The biggest surprise for anyone turning this game on for the first time would've been the graphics and audio: it features FMV clips of Alex Trebek, a sampled recording of the theme song, and all of the sound effects were pulled straight from the show. The audio is a bit muffled and the video clips are small and grainy, but it was pretty impressive stuff considering that Jeopardy! shipped on a tiny 32 megabit cartridge. (For the sake of comparison, the SNES cartridge was just 4 megabits.) It doesn't have the overblown multimedia razzle-dazzle of any of the CD-based versions, but Jeopardy! for the Nintendo 64 is a solid, fun adaptation of a classic TV game show staple. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
