Scientists Compared Arab DNA Across 20 Countries — One Result Shocked Everyone
What happened when scientists compared DNA from Arab populations across the Middle East and North Africa? For generations, Arab ancestry was often presented as one simple story: a single population emerged from the Arabian Peninsula and later spread across North Africa, the Levant, Mesopotamia and the Gulf, creating one closely related genetic people. But modern DNA research makes that simple explanation difficult to support. Arab identity is connected by language, culture and shared history, but Arabic-speaking populations do not form one genetically uniform group. Studies instead reveal extensive differences between Peninsular Arabs, Levantines, Iraqis, Egyptians, Yemenis and North African populations.
