We Visited New Zealand’s Island With No Traffic Lights

Just 90 km from Auckland lies Aotea / Great Barrier Island, one of New Zealand’s wildest and most remote-feeling places. 00:00 Intro: The Island With No Traffic Lights 01:25 Day 1: A Tiny Plane Into Jurassic Park 07:03 Day 2: Today, We’re Gonna Fish Baby 09:15 Day 3: Hot Springs in Sh*t Weather 11:50 Day 4: Windy Canyon & the Roof of the Island 14:37 Day 5: One Last Adventure Before Europe 15:14 Final Reflection: Saying Goodbye to New Zealand For 5 days, Mica and I explored this off-grid island by tiny plane, hiking through Windy Canyon to the top of Mount Hobson / Hirakimata, swimming near Kauri Falls, fishing along the coast, visiting Kaitoke Hot Springs, stopping at Awana Beach, and getting a taste of what life feels like in a place with no big supermarkets, no streetlights, and no traffic lights. We stayed in a small cabin surrounded by nature, ate freshly caught fish, flew drones over ridiculous landscapes, played far too much Monopoly Deal, and basically tried to squeeze one last adventure out of New Zealand before leaving for Europe. Because this wasn’t just another trip. After almost a year living in New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa, Great Barrier Island became my final adventure in the country, and a chance to reflect on what I’ll miss the most: the connection to nature, the slower pace of life, and the space this country gave me to finally start my YouTube channel.
