Operation Board Game Review: 1965 Milton Bradley vs. 2025 Hasbro – Which Is Better?
This is Operation, and it has a surprising history! Get your copy of Operation (2025) here: https://amzn.to/3ELgMQT Operation was originally created in 1964 by John Spinello, a student at the University of Illinois. He sold the rights to noted game designer Marvin Glass for five hundred dollars and the promise of a job after he graduated. Unfortunately Spinello never did get the job that he was promised. After a thematic redesign of the game, Glass worked with Milton Bradley to publish Operation in 1965. Operation went on to become an iconic board game, considered a staple of many collections, and the franchise is now estimated to be worth approximately forty million dollars. The game is now currently produced by Hasbro and has seen some exciting updates in recent years. Today I have an original 1965 Milton Bradely edition of Operation, as well as a 1987 edition, a 2005 “The Simpsons” edition, a 2015 Hasbro edition, and the all new 2025 Hasbro edition! Let’s take a look at how much Operation has evolved since 1965! Important Note: The 2025 edition of operation does have a rule change concerning the “Ankle Bone Connected to the Knee Bone” challenge. In all previous years the challenge was to connect the posts with the rubber band. In the 2025 rule book, the rubber band starts the game connecting the posts and the player is tasked with removing it. This is a reversal of the original rules from 1965.
