Lowertown Live @Union Pool | NYC

Lowertown is an American indie rock band originally from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2018 by two high school classmates—Olivia (Olive) Osby and Avsha (Avshalom) Weinberg. They first met in a math class, bonded over shared musical tastes, and began collaborating on music. They officially released their first single the summer before graduating and debuted their album Friends in 2019. Initially rooted in lo-fi, bedroom-pop and indie folk, their sound has grown to incorporate elements of electronica, post-punk, and atmospheric indie rock. Their music is known for raw, narrative lyricism and mood-driven songwriting. As described on their Bandcamp: “a blend of electronic and lo-fi instrumentation with meaningful lyricism and melancholy, narrative lyrics”. Lowertown signed to Dirty Hit, home to artists like The 1975 and beabadoobee, as teenagers. They gained momentum touring with Wet Leg, Beabadoobee, and Porches. Their creative process blends Olivia’s poetic, intuitive voice with Avsha’s classical musical training and structured approach. In interviews, they’ve described their evolving sound—from melodic, intimate beginnings to more experimental, punk-influenced expressions—driven by personal growth and their move from Atlanta to New York City. Lowertown is not just a band; it’s a deeply personal collaboration between two artists whose friendship turned into a dynamic musical duo. Their sound is ever-evolving—fiercely honest, genre-defying, and emotionally resonant. From their high school beginnings to headlining tours, they’ve carved out a space in the indie scene that feels both intimate and ambitious.
