Beneath the famous École des Mines de Paris lies a district of ancient Lutetia. In Gallo-Roman times, craftsmen lived on the outskirts of towns, not least for safety reasons. This was the case for the blacksmiths who settled here, and traces of their activity and daily life have been unearthed.
