FROM TWO JACKETS TO ONE SKIRT | UPCYCLE DIY (Part 1)

In this video, I begin transforming two thrifted jackets into a layered overskirt that became part of the outfit I wore to Style Files in Chicago. This piece started with a cropped military jacket and a green plaid jacket, and through cutting, pinning, and reshaping, the two pieces come together to create a dramatic open overskirt designed to layer over jeans or another skirt. In Part 1 of this transformation, I show you how I: • Cut the plaid jacket to create the bottom of the skirt • Use the lapels as a waistband and yoke • Combine the military jacket and plaid layers • Pin and shape the garment before sewing • Finish the look with hand-stitched vintage brooches This is just the beginning. In Part 2, I’ll be creating the corset and transforming the oversized jeans that complete the full Style Files outfit.
