Yet only minutes from many of these landmarks, thousands of people continue living in tents, vehicles, parks, and public spaces. In this documentary, we explore 15 locations that reveal the visible contrast at the center of California’s homelessness crisis. Near SoFi Stadium, encampments along major road corridors drew attention before the 2022 Super Bowl. Around Oakland Coliseum, tents and recreational vehicles have repeatedly appeared beneath freeways and across nearby industrial zones. In Los Angeles, the crisis can be seen near Dodger Stadium, Hollywood Boulevard, MacArthur Park, and Venice Beach Boardwalk. The most dramatic example remains Skid Row, where shelters, health clinics, food programs, and large concentrations of unhoused residents exist only blocks from downtown towers and rapidly rising property values. Northern California presents the same contradiction. The Tenderloin, Civic Center Plaza, and Market Street sit inside one of the wealthiest cities in the world, yet homelessness, addiction, and public-health emergencies remain highly visible. Near Levi’s Stadium, the Guadalupe River Trail has become one of Silicon Valley’s most persistent encampment corridors despite the region’s extraordinary wealth. The journey also reaches Petco Park, Balboa Park, the Santa Ana River Trail, and Berkeley’s historic People’s Park. Some encampments have been cleared, reduced, or moved, but the underlying pressures remain: unaffordable housing, limited shelter capacity, mental-health challenges, addiction, and a shortage of permanent supportive housing. These locations are not presented as attractions. They are evidence of a difficult reality existing beside California’s most celebrated spaces.
