Ryhor Astapenia | TEDxUlica Mińska
// A childhood museum visit left Ryhor Astapenia with an image of Belarus as a land of straw shoes and farming tools — and decades later, he set out to understand why. The answer: roughly 90–99% of Belarus's cultural heritage has been lost, destroyed, or scattered across the world's museums. Through war, repression, and Belarusians' own indifference, the country lost almost everything but the straw shoes. But Astapenia ends on a note of agency: the slow work of reclaiming this heritage is already underway, even in exile — and "we" means the people in this room. Co-founder of the Maldzis initiative.
