Mixing Dialogue & Music for F1® The Movie | Behind the Scenes with Gary Rizzo, CAS
In a movie filled with revving 1,000-horsepower engines, two-time Oscar®-winning re-recording mixer Gary Rizzo, CAS, faced a unique challenge: making dialogue and music cut through the chaos. The catch? Over 90% of the communication in the film occurs over the compressed, crackling sound of radio headsets. To solve it, Rizzo took an intricate approach—designing multiple “futz” profiles for different perspectives, each specifically tuned to feel authentic while remaining comfortable to listen to. Subtle shifts in audio quality distinguish communication between the pit wall, the cockpit, and the commentary booth, helping the audience instantly understand where they are without ever thinking about it. In this video, Rizzo explains how these subtle sonic shifts keep the story intelligible at 200 miles per hour, so the audience never misses a beat. ▶️ http://avid.co/ek7i50WEOLm Follow Avid Pro Tools: / avidprotools / avidprotools / avid.protools / avidprotools / avid-pro-tools / avidtechnology / avid.protools #f1themovie #audiopost #protools
