A Amazônia de 14 mil anos atrás: Eduardo Góes Neves at TEDxVer-o-Peso

Eduardo Góes Neves holds a degree in history from the University of São Paulo (USP), a doctorate in archaeology from Indiana University, is a professor at USP, and president of the Brazilian Society of Archaeology. Eduardo has worked in the Amazon since the 1980s and has participated in a revolution in the understanding of the region's past. In this lecture, he discusses the dense occupation of the Amazon since the pre-colonial period, draws a parallel between the biodiversity and sociodiversity of the region, and shows how the economy of pre-colonial Amazonian civilizations was based on a mode of exploitation of natural resources that is completely different from what we are proposing for the region today. This presentation was recorded on August 27, 2011 during TEDxVer-o-Peso, the first TEDx event in Pará. About TEDx x=independently organize event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
