Living Light – What Bioluminescence Teaches Us | Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Stefan Schramm | TEDxFreiburg
From glowing oceans visible from space to fireflies and luminous fungi, nature has developed countless ways to generate “cold light” with remarkable efficiency. In his talk, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Stefan Schramm demonstrates how these natural principles can serve as a blueprint for sustainable technologies in the form of BioLEMs. These organic, metal-free light-emitting molecules may illuminate future displays without placing a burden on the environment. His core idea is simple yet powerful: instead of fighting against the limits of nature, we can learn from it how to store and release energy more gently. In this way, our cities at night could one day shine more like living ecosystems — and less like industrial byproducts. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
