How about a dance tonight? Tracks invites you to join the dance of traditional dances... not so traditional after all. Born in post-1968 Europe, these parties, blending traditional dances with more modern ones, have been regaining popularity in recent years. To folk music, a new generation of dancegoers is following in the footsteps of their ancestors, with the desire to move together again and move away from a club culture where dancing is mostly solitary. These events not only rekindle an interest in regional cultures but also update the practices. Because dancing as a couple without trying to hook up is also about relearning how to touch without going any further, how to lead and be led, regardless of gender. Tracks goes to meet those who are leading the traditional dance towards a revival. Matthieu Souchet, musician and organizer of the Teknibal parties, offers electro-traditional dances, blending traditional and electronic music, where all generations come together on the dance floor. With their folk musical duo Rhizottome, Matthieu Metzger and Armelle Dousset keep traditional melodies alive by adapting them to contemporary tastes.
