Introduction and Background At the invitation of the Upper Rhine Waterways and Shipping Authority (WSA), Worms Branch, the Stehr demonstration team presented the innovative SUG 35-T road maintenance system in combination with a plate compactor yesterday, November 19, 2025. The Worms Branch is responsible for the maintenance of an extensive network of roads and service roads, spanning approximately 120 kilometers, which requires regular and efficient maintenance. 2. Demonstration Conditions The demonstration took place directly on a service road along the Rhine, reflecting the typical challenges faced by the district. The road was in very poor condition, characterized by numerous deep, water-filled potholes. The aim of the demonstration was to showcase the efficiency, speed, and high-quality work of the Stehr system in the rehabilitation of this severely damaged road surface. 3. Work Performed and Process Description The Stehr road maintenance system, which is consistently designed according to the principle of "1 person – 2 machines – complete with just one carrier vehicle," went through the following work steps: Shoulder Milling: First, the shoulders (the verges) were precisely milled to restore a proper drainage level. Road Surface Rupture: Next, the road surface was ruptured to a depth of up to 10 cm. This step serves to homogenize the material and eliminate deeper damage such as potholes. Profiling and Compaction: The profiling of the loosened material was achieved with only a few passes. The Stehr plate compactors, which are always mounted at the front of the carrier machine, enabled immediate and effective compaction of the newly profiled roadway. 4. Conclusion and Results The integrated and compact Stehr system proved its worth even under the challenging conditions (deep potholes, water accumulation) on the outskirts of Worms. The combination of ripping, profiling, and compaction with a single carrier machine resulted in a significant increase in work efficiency. The result underscores the manufacturer's performance promise: faster, better, and more effective in road maintenance. The demonstration confirmed the potential of the SUG 35-T to make the maintenance of the approximately 120 km of roads in the Worms outskirts more economical and of higher quality.
