THE RON JAMES SHOW marches into Season 5 with a fast-paced new format, a stunning new set, and an even more exciting new set of features. This year, Ron’s signature stand-up is punchier than ever, and now it’s shot “in the round” before a live audience. Hilarious new departments on the show include Bobby DeNiro’s Canada, where the legendary actor (played by Ron) pays tribute to our nation as only he can (“There’s no rats in Alberta!”); as well as From the Vaults, where film aficionado Elroy Faber affectionately dusts off forgotten gems found in the CBC archives, like the long-running Western Prairie Buckaroo, which due to budget constraints, was set in a single jail cell – for all 23 seasons! Each episode of the series will also feature a comedic song, an edgy graphics piece, and 5 new sketches. We’ll see returning favourites like C-CON’s Buell Crawford - the right wing radio host whose guests so routinely storm out of the studio, all his broadcasts end with, “And once again, I am right and my guest has left!” - and new age guru Erskin Toob, who imparts dubious nuggets of advice in a series of Toob Talks to an adoring audience of self-help junkies. And of course, L’il Ronnie is back every week, stirring up trouble in a series of beloved animated segments inspired by Ron’s childhood in Cape Breton – but there are some loopy surprises this year as the beloved scamp has found some success beyond Canada – meet L’il Ronnie, the HBO version! Special guest stars include many of Canada’s top actors, comedians and Second City alumni, including Rick Roberts, George Stroumboulopoulos, Karen Leblanc, Scott Thompson, Linda Kash, Eric Peterson, Peter Keleghan, Kathy Maloney, Pat McKenna, Sean Cullen, Max Topplin, Aurora Browne, Raoul Bhaneja, Sandy Jobin-Bevans, Allana Harkin, and Mike Wilmot.
