Today Maria and I are in a very famous place in Loutolim which does not need much introduction, especially to those who are working in Verna. We are at the old and famous Dharmu hotel. Contact: 9822128001, 8275230970; Sundays closed Hotel Dharmu is located at the junction of the Cortalim-Loutolim-Borim road with the NH566 Loutolim-Verna highway. From Loutolim’s Saviour of the World church, continue straight to the Shree Ramnath Temple, then turn right after the miraculous cross at the Tolleaband. Continue past the grand Figuereido Mansion towards the Cortalim road. Just before you reach the junction is Dharmu hotel, on the left. If you come at lunch time, you may find cars parked outside and at times, people waiting to eat. Dharmu hotel is closed on Sundays Today, Maria is having prawns rice plate (Rs 200) and I’m having modso (rice plate) This is not a place to sit for hours, nor does it have any frills, or even a printed menu. All Dharmu hotel promises is the homeliest of food, cheap, and served fast. At lunch time, Dharmu’s owner Mandar is constantly moving, serving food and drinks, giving extra helpings of fish curry, quickly clearing tables for the next diners, taking orders, and helping his wife Preeti and sister Joshila in the kitchen. Dharmu is the name of Joshila and Mandar’s father. Everyone here eats and finishes quickly because the food is so good. We too will eat and be out of here in a jiffy, so that those waiting for their lunch don’t stay hungry for long. So let’s see what we have here in Maria’s prawn thali: Fish curry, radish bhaji, fried prawns, salad, pickle, rice and sol codi. And mine has a lovely big piece of fried modso. Just see that beautiful curry with fat Goan red rice. The food was just spectacular. I would say home taste but it’s in fact better than my home fish curry taste! Maria is loving the red rice. It’s so much tastier with the fish curry, but you can ask for white rice also here. Dharmu hotel is very famous, does not need any introduction. You all know it. We just want to confirm to you that the food is still absolutely fantastic and home made just like your mother made it.
