SADIE GOES TO THE HOSPITAL, RV PETS A HUGE PART OF OUR EVERYDAY LIFE, #fulltimerv, #rvdogs, #pets

Pet's play a huge part in many RVers lives. ‪@soldonrvlife‬ we are particularly fond of our Sadie. This week Sadie went to the Good Samaritan Animal Doctor in Omaha, Nebraska to have 6 teeth pulled. Was this routine treatment? Was it preventable? One of the biggest responsibilities we have as pet owners is making sure our animals receive the care they need, even when it's expensive. We love our pets like family, so should the cost determine the quality of care they receive? Providing good food, quality treats, regular exercise, and keeping up with flea, tick, and heartworm prevention are all part of being a responsible pet owner. But there is another aspect to pet owner responsibility - dental care. We put off Sadie's dental work because of the cost. Even after our veterinarian recommended we address her tooth decay, we waited several years. Eventually, though, between her worsening breath (and yes... having to live with that! Yuck!) and knowing her dental health was affecting much more than just her teeth, we realized we couldn't wait any longer. The work camping Olie and I have been doing gave us the opportunity to finally provide the care Sadie needed and deserved. The veterinarian we visited near our campground really impressed us. Instead of simply scheduling the procedure at their much higher price, they recommended the Good Samaritan Animal Doctor in Omaha. Because they specialize in surgeries and dental procedures, they were able to provide the same care at a significantly lower cost. That recommendation spoke volumes to us. It showed that Sadie's health was more important to them than their bottom line. Even at $875, the procedure was still a significant expense. But when we looked at what that investment meant for Sadie's comfort, health, and hopefully many more happy years with us, it became money well spent. Our sweet Sadie Girl deserved that chance, and we're grateful we were finally in a position to give it to her. If you are on the fence about dental care for your pet, consider this: PERIODONTAL DISEASE: is a condition caused by plaque buildup and tartar on the teeth and under the gumline. This leads to destruction of the supporting teeth tissues, including bone, the periodontal ligament and attached gum tissue. Bone destruction can lead to jaw fracture or fistulas (holes in the mouth). When bacterial infections worsen, they may also extend into deeper tissue, causing abscesses. ORAL BACTERIA CAN ENTER THE BLOODSTREAM AND AFFECT THE HEART, LIVER AND KIDNEYS!!!!! Ask us how we know!! It can happen to humans too! Sadie has been recovering from surgery quite well. She has really gone through a lot. The first few days were hard, for her and US! We are sure she doesn't understand why her mouth feel weird.
