Aladdin Aladdin is an animated film by Walt Disney Pictures, released on November 25, 1992. The story is based on the popular Arabian tale of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, included in the collection One Thousand and One Nights, although it also incorporates elements and characters from the 1940 film The Thief of Bagdad. It was directed and produced by Americans John Musker and Ron Clements and written by them along with screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. The musical score was written by composer Alan Menken, winner of several Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, while the lyrics were written by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. It is the thirty-first animated feature film by Disney and the sixth classic fairy tale it has adapted.3 The plot tells the story of Aladdin, a poor young man who, along with his monkey Abu, steals and tricks the people of Agrabah to survive and get food. His luck changes when he finds an old lamp from the depths of the Cave of Wonders, in which resides a genie who grants him three wishes, including the wish to become a prince so that Jasmine, the Sultan's daughter with whom he has fallen in love, will notice him.
