The greatness of the original Tiger Mask was experienced by people at the time. It's probably hard to understand unless you were around when it was first broadcast. Just like gymnastics and figure skating, the difficulty of professional wrestling's acrobatic moves has become incredibly high, and there are countless wrestlers today who can surpass the original Tiger Mask in aerial techniques. But even now, 40 years later, when I rewatch footage of the matches from that time, there's a "special" charm to the original Tiger Mask's matches that's different from today's junior heavyweight divisions. Junior heavyweight wrestling, which relies mainly on flying techniques, inevitably has a "predetermined" atmosphere, like pre-determined kumite or group gymnastics. And there's an undeniable, literally "light" feel to it, which can come across as fake and contrived to those unfamiliar with professional wrestling. But I don't really get that feeling with the original Tiger Mask's matches.
