KYOTO’s Best Temple for a RAINY Day 🌧️ | Nanzenji - Beautiful Traditional Gardens in Japan

Step into the serene world of Nanzenji Temple, one of Kyoto’s most iconic Zen temples, captured on a rainy day when its calm presence feels most alive. This meditative walk begins in the Hojo, the abbot’s quarters, where softly lit corridors lead through a series of historic rooms — a quiet study, a refined tea room, and the Ryōko no Ma, or Room of the Dragon and Tiger, known. The structure are known for their beautiful gold-painted fusuma sliding doors depicting mythical creatures and nature scenes. These interiors reflect centuries of quiet reflection, art, and ritual. Outside the Hojo lies one of Kyoto’s most famous dry landscape gardens, a Zen rock garden where gravel patterns mimic the flow of water, and the arrangement of stones invites contemplation. Beyond this, mossy paths and subtle inner gardens guide us deeper into the temple grounds, where rain softly coats ancient stones and wooden eaves, amplifying the temple’s atmosphere of stillness. The journey continues toward the iconic aqueduct, a striking 19th-century red brick structure running through the temple grounds. Though a later addition, it has become an essential part of Nanzenji’s character — bold, unexpected, and yet in harmony with its surroundings. From there, the walk leads through gentle forested areas toward the main hall, a space of reverence and simplicity, before concluding beneath the monumental Sanmon Gate. Towering above the treetops, this gate is both a threshold and a viewpoint, symbolizing spiritual ascent and offering panoramic glimpses of Kyoto through the mist. Set to a blend of soft piano, traditional Japanese music, and natural ambience, this video captures the essence of Kyoto in the rain — perfect for relaxation, sleep, study, or virtual travel. With every step, Nanzenji invites you to slow down, breathe, and find peace in the balance between architecture, nature, and time. Whether you're planning to visit Japan, exploring Zen temples, or simply looking for a calm escape, this quiet walk through Nanzenji offers a moment of stillness in a busy world. 📌Turn on CC for Subtitles. ----------------------------------------------------------- 🥚Timestamps 00:00 Intro 00:27 Location 01:28 Tea Room / Waterfall Room 01:56 Reception Room / Tiger and Dragon Room 02:23 Dry Garden / Hojo Garden 02:55 Study / Shoin Room 03:32 Painted Room / Fusuma Paintings 04:24 Dry Gardens / Kohojo Garden 04:53 Traditional Corridor / Tiger Rooms 06:11 Zen Garden / Rokudo-tei Garden 07:16 Zen Garden / Ryugin-tei Garden 08:02 Gardens / Traditional Rooms 09:41 Nanzenji Grounds 10:09 Aqueduct 10:58 Main Hall / Cherry Blossom 12:00 Main Gate / Sanmon Gate 13:25 Outro ----------------------------------------------------------- 🥚Locations ⦁ Nanzenji, Kyoto, Japan 南禅寺, 京都市, 日本 ----------------------------------------------------------- 🥚Tamago's Gear ⦁ DJI Osmo Pocket 3 ⦁ Canon EOS D Mark II ⦁ Sony FDR-AX700 ----------------------------------------------------------- 🥚 Disclaimers ⦁ Prices are calculated on date of publishing. ⦁ Prices can vary based on the seasons. ----------------------------------------------------------- #japan #japantravel #kyoto #temple #photography #japanesegarden #zengarden
