How John and Alice Coltrane Transcended Jazz

Jazz has had inextricable links with religion since it first blossomed in New Orleans. As one of the fastest evolving genres in music, each variation of its style can quickly develop its own conventions that end up restricting the human, spiritual expression of the centre of it. In this video, we take a look at one of the most influential couples in the Western canon, John and Alice Coltrane: jazz musicians who pushed the boundaries of style and instrumentation, and used the medium as a way of furthering their own spiritual pursuits.
