Mas que trans é essa? Conheça Léo Áquilla, pioneira da TV brasileira

Meet Léo Áquilla, the trans woman who became an icon of Brazilian pop culture. With over 30 years in the business, Léo is a singer, drag performer, journalist, writer, speaker, and municipal coordinator of Diversity in São Paulo. She started on the talent show stage, gaining recognition at a time when trans and drag artists were practically invisible on TV. She also gained notoriety on TV Fama and went viral on the internet with her memes on A Fazenda. In music, Léo invested in her own career boldly: she sold her apartment in the 90s to finance the show "O Feitiço de Áquilla" (The Spell of Áquilla), which propelled her to national fame. Among her hits are "Mas Que Trans É Essa" (What Kind of Trans Is This?), "Abracadabra", "Belíssima", "Se Joga, Pintosa" (Go for It, Girly), "Love Devotion", and "Princesinha da Favela" (Little Princess of the Favela), in addition to the EP "Eu Vou Lutar" (I Will Fight), released in 2020. Her impact goes far beyond the stage. She was the first trans woman to lead the Coordination of Policies for LGBTI+ people in São Paulo, focusing on employability, education, and safety. Artists like Pabllo Vittar and Gloria Groove acknowledge Léo's influence in paving the way for new generations. More than a pop star, Léo is a reference point, almost a "mother" to the LGBTQIA+ community, showing that occupying positions of power is not a choice, it's survival. Before trends became fashionable, she was already there, making noise, opening paths, and making it clear: pioneering spirit cannot be explained, it must be imposed. #LeoAquilla #PopBrasil #LGBTQIA
