Caesar and the clemency at Corfinium - The Italian campaign of 49 BC
Partly answering another question, and also as a survey of teh campaign, today's video is about the build up to the Civil War and teh Italian campaign which began when Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon in January 49 BC. As campaigns go, there was not a lot of fighting in this one, as Pompey the Great and his allies, caught unprepared, were out marched and out thought by Caesar. We get vivid glimpses of the war from Cicero's letters, who was caught up in the middle of it all. We also address Caesar's policy of clementia - clemency - particularly at the siege of Corfinium.
