Geriatric Emergency Care in Emergency Medical Services – Lecture by Prof. Dr. Thomas Gehr The care of elderly people is part of everyday life in emergency medical services – and presents emergency responders with particular challenges due to the significant individual differences in the aging process. Because: "Old" is not a diagnosis. A holistic assessment goes far beyond simply looking at acute symptoms. In this lecture, Prof. Dr. Thomas Gehr demonstrates the central role that emergency medical services play at the interface with clinical care. Using practical screening tools, modern geriatric care concepts, and concrete case studies, he explains how a differentiated assessment of the overall situation can positively influence the further course of treatment and sustainably improve the quality of care. About the speaker: Prof. Dr. Thomas Gehr is Professor of Clinical Nursing at HSD Döpfer University. The registered nurse studied nursing management and gerontology and earned his doctorate from the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with a dissertation on coping with stress in the care of geriatric patients. He combines his academic work with many years of practical experience in direct patient care, as well as in nursing and organizational development in hospitals and in research projects aimed at improving geriatric care.
