NDB 233 kHz ALJ
This is the Orca Bay NDB (non-directional beacon) on 233 kHz. It sends the short message 'ALJ' in Morse 24/7/365 Intended for aviation use, these beacons are used less frequently now as GPS is replacing them along with many older navigation aids. In the US, a few hundred of these still remain in operation. As with AM broadcast radio, they can be heard over long distances at night. ALJ is located at 60 28 47 N / 146 35 15 W - on Hinchinbrook Island, Alaska. It is 1320 miles northwest of my location near Seattle, WA
