At the time, KTPX also simulcasted its programming on satellite KWAB (channel 4) covering the eastern portion of the market including Big Spring. The station at the time was under receivership, but would exit it in 1991 when it was sold to Drewry Communications, who was bought out by Raycom Media in 2015. Drewry would change the call letters to the present KWES-TV in 1993. Today, the station is owned by Tegna.
