PRS SE Studio: The Most Versatile SE Ever? | Mahogany Body & Narrowfield Review | Mooloolaba Music
Welcome back to the workshop at Mooloolaba Music! Today, Chris the Guitar Tech is taking a "brand spanking new" look at the PRS SE Studio. This isn't just another SE model; it’s a tonal powerhouse featuring PRS's innovative Narrowfield Deep Dish pickups and a classic mahogany body. Whether you're looking for creamy blues tones or high-gain "squeals," this guitar is designed to offer professional versatility at an incredible price point. Shop the PRS SE Studio here: [Link] 🛠️ THE SPECS & HARDWARE Body: Solid Mahogany body for beautiful warmth, richness, and deep resonance. Neck: Satin Maple finish with a "wide and narrow" profile—fast, smooth, and comfortable. Fretboard: Premium Rosewood with 22 frets and a flat 10-inch radius for effortless playing. Headstock: Recessed design for a perfect string break angle over the nut without the need for artificial string trees. Bridge: The signature PRS 6-point tremolo—highly responsive and neat to play. ⚡ THE ELECTRONICS: Narrowfield "Deep Dish" & Humbucker Power The SE Studio features a unique HSS-style configuration that gives you the best of both worlds: Neck & Middle: Brand new Narrowfield Deep Dish "S" pickups. These provide a full-spectrum EQ with "creamy" mids and punchy lows. Bridge: The 58/15 LT "S" Humbucker. High-output and clear, perfect for bridge-position bite. Coil-Split Magic: Use the Push-Pull tone knob to split the bridge humbucker, giving you that traditional Strat-style single-coil configuration whenever you need it. 🚀 THE TECH’S TAKE (MOL-MUSIC NUGGETS) Tonal Step-Up: Chris notes that the jump from poplar (found in the NF3) to Mahogany in the Studio is a major tonal upgrade for players seeking sustain and resonance. Tuning Stability Tip: While the recessed headstock is a win, Chris recommends considering a set of locking tuners if you plan on using the tremolo system heavily for maximum stability. Responsive Control: The volume pot is exceptionally responsive, allowing you to roll back and "clean up" your signal without losing the character of the pickups. THE VERDICT The PRS SE Studio is a "sight to behold" and a "tonal chameleon." From its "creamy" neck tones to the bridge humbucker's "grunt," it delivers way more than its price tag suggests. Should we do a side-by-side comparison between these Narrowfields and traditional single coils?
