Introducing ABCs in Dermatology!
Welcome to ABC’s in Dermatology, @HCPLiveNews newest dermatology podcast, hosted by a pair of the field’s leading minds in Lindsay Ackerman, MD, and Chris Bunick, MD, PhD. Created by the same team behind The Medical Sisterhood and Skin of Color Savvy, ABCs in Dermatology is a monthly podcast designed to deliver candid conversations, clinical insight, and forward-looking perspectives from the voices shaping dermatology today. In the inaugural episode, co-hosts Lindsay Ackerman, MD, of US Dermatology Partners, and Chris Bunick, MD, PhD, of Yale School of Medicine, introduced the podcast, the philosophy behind it, and the meaning behind the title. The series, titled Ackerman-Bunick Conversations in Dermatology, or ABCs in Dermatology for short, aims to translate complex and rapidly evolving clinical and scientific developments into practical insights for practicing clinicians. In the episode, Ackerman reflects on early exposure to cutaneous oncology research at the University of Pennsylvania and what drew her to dermatology’s broad clinical scope. Bunick shares how doctoral research on DNA repair and the XPC protein led him toward skin cancer biology, with mentorship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine helping shape his path into the field. The episode also explores the growing importance of understanding treatment mechanisms as biologic and targeted therapies expand. Bunick discusses how explaining the science behind therapies can strengthen patient trust and engagement, while Ackerman highlights ongoing clinical trial work in rare and underserved conditions such as congenital ichthyosis and hidradenitis suppurativa. Together, the hosts discuss the evolving therapeutic landscape in dermatology, the role of molecular science in clinical care, and the importance of strong doctor–patient relationships. New episodes will be released monthly on HCPLive, with audio available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. The next episode, a preview of the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting, is scheduled for release on March 23.
