A vida resolve-se sozinha com o psiquiatra José Gameiro
José Gameiro was born in Lisbon 70 years ago. He is a psychiatrist, holds a doctorate in Psychology and Mental Health, and is a founding member of the Brazilian Society of Family Therapy. He has been practicing couples therapy for over 30 years, back when in Portugal this was still a topic so rarely discussed (and with its advantages so little recognized). He is the author of several books on relationships, such as "Maybe Forever" and "Until Love Separates Us." I dare say, although I know he himself doesn't like it, that he is a love expert. He confessed to being tired of talking about these topics, but his experience and knowledge in the area of romantic relationships, along with my admitted admiration (almost bordering on stalking), made him a mandatory first guest. The goal was to answer the question "How many times can we die of love and be resurrected?" but the conversation took us much further. The heartbreaks, the new beginnings (at any age), and the new families. The "mine and yours" children, the women with a bonus. We discovered what justifies betrayals, and whether a relationship can continue afterward. José Gameiro admits that he points out more mistakes men make and explains why. I took the opportunity to understand what women can improve in this whole love story thing (which, in the end, requires a lot of work to be good). We tried to understand if monogamy is natural and if we need constant adrenaline in this adventure that is love. The conversation (which could last for endless days) ended with a small observation about Dr. José Gameiro's great source of adrenaline. Here's a hint: it's an enormous passion, but it doesn't involve women.
