8BitDo Arcade Controller. Still Worth It After a Few More Weeks?

After spending a few more weeks with the 8BitDo Arcade Controller, the impression it leaves is shaped as much by convenience as by performance. The design makes it easy to reach for repeatedly because setup is effortless, the wireless dongle on PC works as intended, and the controller connects instantly without cluttering the desk with cables. Over time those small details matter more than expected, because frictionless use encourages regular play. That sense of reliability is why it continues to earn a spot in actual sessions, even when compared with higher end leverless alternatives. The picture is not entirely without drawbacks. On Switch 2 the dongle does not function, forcing reliance on Bluetooth. At first this seems acceptable, but during extended play the input delay becomes noticeable and can affect execution, particularly when trying to block or parry consistently. Switching to a wired connection removes the issue, but at the cost of the very convenience that makes this controller appealing. On PC another quirk appears in Tekken 8, where the SOCD cleaner occasionally misreads a back input. The character sometimes stops despite the input still being held, although the behaviour is rare, inconsistent and not reproducible at will. It does not occur in Street Fighter 6 or when wired, which suggests either a unit specific or firmware related issue. What remains constant is that the advantages outweigh the imperfections. The R16 may still be the personal favourite for layout and feel, but the ease of wireless play on this 8BitDo model makes it an attractive option that stands apart. Leaving the dongle in the PC, twisting the dial, and being ready to play within seconds becomes a luxury that is difficult to give up once it has been experienced.
