Ehden (Arabic: إِهْدِن, Syriac-Aramaic: ܐܗܕ ܢ ) is a mountainous city in the heart of the northern mountains of Lebanon and on the southwestern slopes of Mount Makmal in the Mount Lebanon Range. Its residents are the people of Zgharta, as it is within the Zgharta District. . The people of Zgharta pride themselves on their famous kibbeh, which is stuffed with animal fat, garlic and dry mint, and usually cooked on a barbecue. Alternatively, a mixture of sautéed onions and minced meat is used as stuffing. . Mar Mema The Mar Mema church in Ehden was erected in 748 on the ruins of a pagan temple built by Macedonians, & dedicated to the god of the sun. It is one of the oldest Maronite churches in Lebanon. On its walls there are crosses & inscriptions, some of which are in Greek, in addition to a date 494, after the time of Alexander the Macedonian. Mar Mema (260-275) is the patron of shepherds & nurses; he was executed at Caesarea Cappadocia, at the age of 15, during the persecution of the Roman Emperor Aurelian. . Mar Boutros . Mar Sarkis In Ehden, Lebanon, Mar Sarkis is a monastery of the Antonins. It is located in the Zgharta District of the North Governorate, in the Qozhaya valley. It overlooks Ehden, Kfarsghab, Bane and Hadath El Jebbeh. Given its exceptional location commanding the valley at 1500 meters altitude, the monastery is called the Watchful Eye of Qadisha. It is dedicated to Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Sarkis and Bakhos). The name Ras Al Nahr means 'the top of the rive'r as it is in the vicinity of the Mar Sarkis Source, the main contributor to the river Qlaynsieh which, after joining the Qannoubine river, will form near Tripoli the river Abou Ali. . MartMoura Saint Moura, also known as Mart Moura, is a Christian martyr of the third century and is honored in Egypt and the Middle East. Her feast is celebrated on 3 May and on 25 September, 5 Hathor and 8 Pashons in the Coptic church. Several churches are dedicated to her, especially in northern Lebanon, as well as a monastery in Ehden. . Saydet Al Hosn . Horsh Ehden Horsh Ehden is a nature reserve located in North Lebanon. It contains a forest of the cedar of Lebanon, making it a part of the country's cultural and natural heritage. Located on the northwestern slopes of Mount Lebanon with high precipitation, it hosts numerous rare and endemic plants. Stands of cedars also include a mixed forest of juniper, fir, and the country's last protected community of wild apple trees. In the forest are endangered eastern imperial eagles or Bonelli's eagles, gray wolves, wildcats, golden jackals, and red foxes.
