Today is Timor-Leste's Independence Day. Viva Timor-Leste!!

Timor-Leste was proclaimed independent by FRETILIN on November 28, 1975. On December 7th of the same year, just a little over a week, Indonesian troops landed in Dili, thus marking the beginning of a 25-year struggle for independence. In August of 1999 the people of Timor-Leste voted in a referendum under the auspices of the UN to determine the future of their country. They voted overwhelmingly to breakaway from Indonesia. On May 20th, 2002, Timor-Leste's independence was restored. Thank you Nai Tú Fernandes for designing the card at the opening and ending of this video. Text of the proclamation (in Portuguese): Encarando a aspiração suprema do povo de Timor-Leste e para salvaguardar dos seus mais legítimos direitos e interesses como Nação Soberana, o Comité Central da FRENTE REVOLUCIONÁRIA DO TIMOR-LESTE INDEPENDENTE -- FRETILIN -- decreta e eu proclamo, unilateralmente, a Independência de Timor-Leste que passa a ser, a partir das 00H00 de hoje, a República Democrática de Timor-Leste, anti-colonialista e anti-imperialista. Viva a República Democrática de Timor-Leste! Viva o Povo de Timor-Leste Livre e Independente! Viva a FRETILIN!
