街に熱気「大盛岡神輿祭」初夏の風物詩　5基のみこしが集まる　岩手県盛岡市 (26/06/07 18:30)

The "Great Morioka Mikoshi Festival," a traditional early summer event in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, where portable shrines (mikoshi) are paraded through the city, was held, filling the streets with the enthusiasm of the bearers. This festival began in 1989 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Morioka City's founding and is held annually on the first Sunday of June. In 2026, the 38th festival, a total of five mikoshi from Morioka City and Hanamaki City gathered and paraded through the city's downtown area. People from outside the prefecture can also participate as mikoshi bearers or musicians by applying in advance, and approximately 500 people from both within and outside the prefecture enlivened the festival. Participant: "It's fun to meet fellow mikoshi (portable shrine) carriers, and the best part is being able to spend time together." Visitor: "It was cool. It had so much energy, and it was great to see the town come alive." People along the route enjoyed the early summer spectacle, taking pictures and cheering.
