The Belstaff wax-cotton motorcycle jacket collection for 2022-2023

In this review we look at all the jackets in the current Belstaff Pure Motorcycle Collection. I say current, but it hasn’t changed much in the last 10 years, and I’m pretty sure the company is planning on leaving it that way for the next 10. Belstaff is not a brand that easily embraces change; well certainly not in the motorcycle arena. Now Belstaff is not the only maker of wax-cotton motorcycle jackets. Richa, Revitt, RST, Spada, Held and Merlin have all copied Belstaff’s range in one form or another, but rarely do these guys crack it. They might have built in features that Belstaff hasn’t. They might get higher safety ratings than Belstaff. And nearly always their offerings will be cheaper than Belstaff’s, but the bottom line is that their jackets are not Belstaffs. People on the interweb get highly excited about how their lookalike Belstaff jackets do everything a Belstaff does, but cost half the price. And honestly, they may be right. But the fact is that their jackets are not Belstaffs. You can pimp up a BMW, and make it faster than a Ferrari. And it may well be cheaper than a Ferrari. But that doesn’t make it a Ferrari. The fact is that Belstaff know how to make a jacket look good, and they know how to make it wearable on the street. And this is what you’d expect. Belstaff is a fashion company. Their designers understand how to make gear look stylish; it’s what they do. Put on a jacket from one of the other brands, and it will feel like a motorcycle jacket. It may look similar to a Belstaff. It might even have a badge on the shoulder that is a copy of Belstaff’s, but it won’t wear like a Belstaff. You will know that it’s not a Belstaff, and so will everybody else! One of the design principles behind Belstaff’s motorcycle range is that their jackets should have what they call ‘boardroom appeal’. When the chairman or finance director turns up at the AGM in his bike gear, he still wants to make an impression. He doesn’t want to waltz in, and be mistaken for a courier delivering last-minute urgent documents. We have been selling Belstaff’s Pure Motorcycle Collection since it was launched in 2004. Almost certainly, we have sold more of their motorcycle jackets than anybody in the world, including Belstaff themselves. They do wax cotton and leather in a very small range of styles very well indeed.
