At around 11:30 a.m., a cylindrical object was thrown at Saikazaki Fishing Port in Wakayama City, where Prime Minister Kishida was campaigning, and exploded before he was to begin a street speech. The Prime Minister left the scene immediately after the explosion and was unharmed. According to police, a man was apprehended at the scene and arrested on suspicion of obstruction of business by force. The Prime Minister was reportedly speaking with an LDP candidate when the cylindrical object was thrown. The explosive was thrown in a parabolic arc, spewing smoke into the air, into the presence of a large audience. A loud "bang" was heard, and white smoke rose, causing a commotion as the audience screamed. The Prime Minister canceled his planned street speech at Saikazaki Fishing Port.
