Stradella Bass Accordion: #40 The Diminished Seventh Chord

In this video, I feature the DIMINISHED RANK of the 120-Button Stradella Bass Machine—that is, the BOTTOM row of buttons on the Stradella. I couldn’t find any detailed discussion of this on YouTube, so I thought I’d give it a shot. There are SEVEN diminished buttons for each Bass/Root Tone (except for the tone B), but THREE of those buttons are duplicates. As such, there are only FOUR “primary” diminished chord buttons for any given Bass/Root Tone. PRIMARY CHORD BUTTON / BASS (or Counter-bass) / FORMAL CHORD NAME Eb/C = C, Eb, Gb = Co Co/C = C, Eb, Bbb = Co7.n5 Ao/C = C, Gb, Bbb = Co7.n3 Gb/C = C, Eb, Gb, Bbb = Co7. THIS is a COMPLETE “o7” chord. (The above four "chord buttons" are the "primaries" for the root tone "C.") These are COMPLETE o7 chords—albeit with varying Bass Tones. Gb/C = C, Eb, Gb, Bbb = Co7 Eb/A = C, Eb, Gb, A = Co7/A Co/F# = C, Eb, F#, A = Co7/F# Ao/D# = C, D#, F#, A = Co7/D# ALTERNATE B/C = C, D#, F#, B = Co.M7 THIS chord’s tones are essentially C, Eb, Gb, B. Substituting for the “diminished 7th” is a “natural 7th.” It’s a weird chord, but it might come in handy.
