Grimfrost Academy: Viking Age Herbs in Food, Culture and Magic
Grimfrost Academy is a documentary series with the purpose of education and maintaining a historical record. The episodes feature world-leading Viking Age experts sharing knowledge that could otherwise be difficult, or even impossible to come by. The first episode features Archaeobotanist and Quaternary Geologist Jens Heimdahl of the National Historical Museums in Stockholm, Sweden. He explains the use of plants and herbs in Viking Age Scandinavia and how they were connected to rituals, intoxication, brewing, healing, birth, magic and death. He also presents new, groundbreaking results from archaeological digs and possible clues to what could have caused the rage of berserkers. Funding and producing the series is a way for Grimfrost to pay our respects to those who came before us, to counter misconceptions regarding the time period and to thank all our supporters interested in the Viking Age.
