Kaori Sasaki, who grew up in Tokyo, and her foreign husband, Hamid, came to Nishikicho, Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in 2021 as local revitalization volunteers. They have now completed their three-year term. This documentary chronicles the story of a couple who loved their small mountain town and were loved by it. A report on their three years of activities was held last Wednesday. Sasaki said, "This place is full of treasures," and spoke of the value of living in harmony with nature in Nishikicho. The couple, who had just started their married life in Tokyo, worked hard to revitalize the town through outdoor activities and flea markets, despite facing challenges such as Nishikicho's declining population and a shortage of agricultural workers. Their efforts attracted many people, with a total of 500 people participating. However, their activities have sometimes been restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and declining population. Despite this, they continued to hold events to revitalize the community and worked hard to bring vitality back to Nishikicho. The townspeople surprised them with a moving wedding ceremony. This is the story of a couple who loved Nishikicho and were loved by it. Even now that their term has ended, Sasaki and Hamid remain in Iwakuni, working to open a guesthouse and plan travel tours.
