Knitting Balloon Stitch It's ideal for children's sweaters, blankets, bedspreads, etc. It's also very cute purlwise. Number of stitches: multiples of 3, odd. E.g.: 21 (3x7) + selvedge stitch. 1st row (right side of garment): K 3, P 3, K 3, P 3... finish with K 3. 2nd row (wrong side of garment): knit stitches as shown. 3rd row (right side of garment): knit 3; knit 1, knit 1 unknit, knit 1; knit 3; repeat and finish with knit 3. 4th row (wrong side of garment): knit 3; knit 1, knit 1 unknit, knit 1; knit 3; repeat and finish with purl 3. 5th row (right side of garment): knit all the way. 6th row (wrong side of garment): purl all the way. 7th row (right side of garment): knit all the way. 8th row (wrong side of garment): purl all the way. There are 4 rows of knit stockinette. 9th row (right side of garment): repeat but reverse, starting with 3 purls, 3 knits... Note: Remember that the unknitted knit should be passed as a purl, with the yarn at the back, so that it stays neat.
