Piers Morgan’s 5 year grudge. How he conveniently erases facts & continues spreading misinformation

Let's start with the numbers, because they're not in dispute. Within two days of Piers Morgan telling Good Morning Britain viewers he didn't believe a word Meghan said about her suicidal thoughts, more than 41,000 complaints hit Ofcom, enough to trigger a formal investigation. That total climbed to 57,121, the highest in the regulator's history. That's not a fringe reaction. That's the largest broadcast complaint in UK regulatory history, generated by one man's response to a woman describing suicidal ideation. Here's what Meghan actually did in response, and it's worth being precise about it because Morgan has spent years blurring it: she wrote to ITV's CEO, Carolyn McCall, raising concerns about the effect his comments could have on the broader public conversation around mental health, people who might be watching, struggling themselves, and hearing a prominent broadcaster declare that a woman's suicidal thoughts were simply not credible. That's the documented substance of her complaint. There's no public record of her demanding he be fired. He resigned on his own, after his own co-host, Alex Beresford, challenged him on air and he stormed off the set. Worth being fair here too: Ofcom later cleared both Morgan and ITV, ruling that his comments, while offensive to many, fell within the bounds of legitimate on-air debate about a matter of public interest. That's a real part of the record, and it means the story isn't "he broke the rules and got away with it" it's that a regulator found his statements permissible even as tens of thousands of viewers, and a mental health charity, found them harmful. Both things are true at once. And here's the part that's actually strange about where things stand now, five years later: Morgan is still talking about her. Constantly. Every interview, every podcast, every platform, the conversation finds its way back to Meghan, usually accompanied by some version of the claim that she personally got him fired, a claim that doesn't match the documented complaint, which was about message impact, not about him personally. If he has evidence of an actual demand for his dismissal, the way to settle it is simple: produce it. Absent that, repeating the claim doesn't make it true; it just keeps the story alive on his terms. Meanwhile, the asymmetry in how the two of them have actually spent the last five years is hard to ignore. Meghan moved to California, raised her children, built businesses, produced television, and by any observable measure, moved forward. Morgan has built a recurring public identity substantially around returning to this same grievance, on this same subject, years after the interview aired. That's worth naming plainly: when one person in a dispute keeps bringing it up long after the other has stopped engaging, the person doing the bringing-up is the one still holding onto it. None of this requires diagnosing his motivations, that's not something anyone outside his own head can actually know. What's observable is the pattern: a five-year fixation on one woman, sustained across an enormous number of media appearances, well past the point where the original news event has any real currency left. Whatever's driving that, it's his to explain. What's not in question is the actual record, the complaint numbers, what Meghan's complaint was and wasn't about, and how differently these two people have chosen to spend the years since.
