Can You Get Great Photos in a "Boring" Landscape?
We often think we need epic mountains, coastal cliffs or ancient woodlands to take great landscape photos. But what happens when you’re stuck in a "boring" location just 10 minutes from home? In this video, I challenge myself to a 7-mile walk around Bosworth Battlefield and the local canal to see if I can find beauty in the mundane. I realised recently that I’d become a bit "lazy" with my photography, only going to places where a good shot was 'almost' guaranteed. Inspired by a recent talk by @Stainphotography over on Fotofums (https://www.thumbsup.photography/foto...) I decided to head out with just my camera and two lenses (no tripod!) to rediscover the art of seeing. From intimate flower details and canal boat stories to finding that "perfectly shaped" tree, this walk was a reminder that the shot is always there - you just have to look for it. Key Takeaways Look Down: When the grand vista isn't there, focus on the "intimate landscapes" at your feet. Work the Scene: Using long focal lengths to pick out details on canal boats. Embrace the Light: How even harsh or "flat" light can create a moody, ethereal feel with the right composition. The Local Scout: Why every walk is a scouting mission for future conditions.
