Many community nephrologists are increasingly aware of the value of utilization of genetic testing in practice; however, the use of genetic testing in community nephrology settings is limited. Certified genetic counselor Katya Brossart discusses an abstract that was recently presented at the American Society of Nephrology conference in 2021, by Dr. Tarek Darwish. Katya describes the experience of a community nephrology clinic, where 31 patients with kidney disease were selected for testing with an NGS-based panel, describes the overall yield and what some potential implications of the results may be.
