When GOOGLE MAPS Becomes a HAZZARD: Van Life Lessons Is your GPS trying to kill you? It certainly felt that way for us! 🚐💨 Join us as we look back at some of the most frustrating, heart-pounding, and absolutely ridiculous navigation errors we’ve experienced while overlanding through Latin America. We put a lot of faith in technology, but these roads proved that sometimes, the "fastest route" is actually the worst possible idea. While we managed to avoid getting stuck, we found ourselves lost—and in some truly precarious situations—more times than we can count. From near-misses with utility lines to following dead-end trails, here is why you shouldn't always trust that blue line on your screen: Campeche, Mexico: Dodging low-hanging utility lines on roads that were definitely not built for a Sprinter van. Guatemala City: A wrong turn that led us into a seriously dangerous detour we won't soon forget. Nicaragua: Navigating the confusing and remote trails leading into a local Coffee Finca. Colombia (The Tapir Hunt): Venturing deep into the wild in search of elusive tapirs—but the road had other plans. Jardín, Colombia: Taking a "shortcut" up a gnarly, remote logging road that pushed our nerves (and our pathfinding skills) to the limit. Cotopaxi Volcano, Ecuador: Following a map right into the completely wrong entrance of the national park.
