The Lightest C172 in the Backcountry — Here's What We Removed

This 1956 Cessna 172 weighs just 1,264 lbs empty — and we didn't get there by accident. No paint. No carpet or interior. Seats pulled out. We stripped this airplane down to the essentials to save every pound we could — and yeah, I even dropped 25 lbs myself along the way (every bit counts when you're flying backcountry strips). In this video I break down exactly what we removed, why empty weight matters so much for performance — climb rate, useful load, takeoff and landing distance — and what it's actually like flying an airplane this light into the backcountry. We've also done a top overhaul with new cylinders, re-pitched the prop for better climb, and upgraded the panel with modern, lighter avionics — I'll cover all of that in detail in a follow-up video, so subscribe if you don't want to miss it. ✈️ Follow along: YouTube: @t.hangar Instagram: @t.hangar #Cessna172 #BackcountryFlying #GeneralAviation #Bushplane #AircraftWeight #C172 #STOL #TailwheelFlying #AviationYouTube
