Dog episodes that look like a seizure, yet they're conscious - Paroxysmal Dyskinesia.

Chapter time stamps below for you. For four years I searched for answers for the strange episodes my dog Bobby was having. During these episodes he would stay conscious and aware of what was happening around him. He looked worried, his legs would stiffen or get stuck in the air one at a time as if they were cramping, and he would become disorientated. The episodes usually lasted between 1–5 minutes. Afterwards he would be wobbly on his legs for a few minutes and then it would be as if nothing had happened. I showed videos to several vets and no one could tell me what was happening to Bobby. Over time I began to notice patterns and triggers, and I learned how to manage the episodes and reduce how often they happened. Out of the blue, I discovered the name for what Bobby was experiencing: Paroxysmal Dyskinesia, as I saw a video of another dog having the same type of episode as Bobby. One of the hardest parts of this journey, is that until you know the name of the condition, you don’t know what to search for. I made this video in the hope that it might reach other dog owners who are wanting to understand episodes that look like seizures, yet where their dog remains conscious. If your dog has episodes where they: *stay conscious and aware *have legs that stiffen, cramp, or move strangely *look worried or disorientated *recover quickly afterwards *do not lose bladder or bowel control, then it may be worth looking into Paroxysmal Dyskinesia. I’m sharing Bobby’s story in case it helps someone else find answers more quickly than we did. Every dog is different, so always speak to your vet or a vet neurologist if your dog is experiencing unusual episodes and show them a video of what happens to your dog.
