This video presents the discretization process of the internal and external current control loops applied to a three-phase inverter connected to the electrical grid. The digital implementation of control systems is a fundamental step for the use of controllers in DSPs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs employed in modern power electronic converters. Initially, the continuous models of the control loops in the synchronous dq reference frame are reviewed, highlighting the objectives of each loop and its influence on the dynamic performance of the system. Then, the main discretization methods are discussed, considering the effects of the sampling period, computational delays, and practical limitations of the digital implementation. The video covers obtaining the discrete transfer functions, the design of the digital controllers, and the analysis of the stability and dynamic response of the system after discretization. Numerical examples and simulation results are also presented, allowing for a comparison of the controller behavior in the continuous and discrete domains. In the end, the viewer will have a clear understanding of the steps necessary to migrate a control project developed in continuous time to a digital implementation in grid-connected inverters.
