The 16th Korea Kendo 8th Dan Championship was attended by 25 8th Dan practitioners from across the country; however, as the turnout seemed somewhat low, the event was held exclusively at the Central Stadium. Although the Round of 32 served as the preliminary stage, the participants were all 8th Dans with outstanding sword style, spirit, skill, and mastery. Naturally, advancing to the finals by competing against such masters in every exchange was no easy feat, and there must have been moments where not a single mistake, carelessness, or let-up of tension could be tolerated. It was impressive that he passed the 8th Dan test at the 2024 Spring Central Examination and made his debut in 2025, leaving behind an exemplary and magnificent match against the coach of Jangseong Hongseong Nam High School. He was also very impressive when he briefly received a warning during the joint demonstration at this year's Industrial Kendo Tournament. He maintained a proper posture, read his opponent with his body, and responded with overall balance; his sword style—whether striking or striking forward—was correct and solid. Perhaps because he seemed young at the time, I thought he was a 7th Dan, but it turned out he was already an 8th Dan. Once again, I looked forward to a showdown with Director Jang Seong-hong; however, after going through several overtime rounds and adapting to his opponents on the fly, he met the ultimate gladiator, Master Kim Jeong-guk, in the final. With his match experience, championship experience, the dignity of an 8th Dan, and his competitive spirit, Master Kim Jeong-guk led the match well and handled his opponents with seasoned skill; however, he had to hand over the 8th Dan throne to the champion after a magnificent final blow from Director Kim Young-gyu. With Bucheon City Hall Director Kim Young-gyu winning the 8th Dan title, Bucheon has achieved a great feat by winning both the 7th and 8th Dan titles, alongside the 7th Dan runner-up, Master Kim Hyun-seung of Hyungeom Dogwan.
