#6 Foraging mushrooms and gathering friends on the hill

In this chapter, we continue the story of Simon’s August stay in Măgura, on our hill in the Carpathian Mountains. Clara was still in Singapore, having recently started a new job, so Simon spent this part of the trip reconnecting with the rhythm of the place: caring for the land, doing some summer pruning around the orchard, planning for the future root cellar and walking out early in the morning to catch the first light over the mountains while the village was still asleep. With Vlad and Miruna, friends from the village, Simon also walked deep into the ancient forests of Piatra Craiului National Park to forage for mushrooms, raspberries and blueberries. Back at Colina Mică, the day ended with a simple barbecue with friends from the village. The hill started to feel not only like a future home under construction, but also like a place where people can gather.
