Le modèle du Big Bang est-il dépassé ? Jean-Philippe Uzan répond
Planetarium now has its official channel! With all the new episodes 👉 / @planétariumlefigaro The ΛCDM cosmological model, or "Big Bang model," is currently the one that best describes the origin and evolution of our universe from a scientific point of view. But it's not perfect. What if another model were to dethrone it? In this episode of Planetarium, presented in a documentary style, cosmologist Jean-Philippe Uzan gives us his analysis. For decades, space observations have confirmed the robustness of the ΛCDM cosmological model. However, recent and ongoing observations are casting doubt on the accelerating expansion rate of the universe, a cornerstone of this standard model—the famous Λ, or lambda. Data from the DESI scientific instrument, concerning the expansion of the universe attributed to dark energy, and data from the ESA's Euclid space telescope, are, for example, being closely monitored. Could the dynamics of dark energy have varied over time? There are indications that this is the case, but further investigation is needed. And if so, the Big Bang model, as well as our understanding of dark energy, will have to be revised, expanded, or completely rethought. Many contenders are currently developing their arguments, but none have yet gained widespread acceptance. Jean-Philippe Uzan is a cosmologist, research director at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), and a leading figure in science communication in France. He co-authored the book "L'Univers incompris" (The Misunderstood Universe) with astrophysicist Sébastien Carassou. Find his interview on the program "Planétarium," presented weekly by Sylvain Chatelain and Tristan Yey of Le Figaro.
